Why you may want to buy the iPhone 11 instead of waiting for iPhone 12 to launch

If you are planning to buy a new iPhone and waiting for Apple to launch an ‘affordable’ iPhone 12 then it may be a better idea to opt for the iPhone 11 instead. This is because reports suggest that the upcoming iPhone 12 will be way more expensive than the iPhone 11. So, if you have set aside money to buy the latest iPhone, it may be a good option to opt for iPhone 11 if you are on a tight budget.

Also, Apple will not include charging adapter and earpods inside the box of iPhone 12. As for the starting price of iPhone 12, it may be as high as $749 without tax. In India, the iPhone 11 (64GB) is available at around Rs 66,990 while the cost of the iPhone XR is Rs 50,499. In the US, the iPhone 11 is selling at around $764 after tax which converts to Rs 56,300 in India.

Reports also suggest that despite Apple excluding the adapter and earpods, it is costing more for Apple to make the iPhone 12. The bill of materials is $50 more due to 5G support and OLED display.

So, if you are planning to buy the iPhone 12 in India after launch, you may have to spend upwards of Rs 70,000 even if Apple decides to price the iPhone 12 closer to the present price of iPhone 11 to boost initial demand.

Meanwhile a new report that has appeared on Fast Company’s website claims that while all 2020 iPhone models will support 5G, only the top-of-the-line model will support the fastest 5G standard.

According to the report, “All the phones in the new iPhone 12 line will support the slower but more common Sub-6 type of 5G service, but only the largest, highest-end phone in the line, a 6.5-inch screen device likely called the iPhone Pro Max, will also support millimeter-wave 5G.”

If this happens to be true then a slightly affordable iPhone 12 may be expected in the Indian market.
